Who are we?
The Continence Service for Somerset is provided by Somerset Community Health.
The service is run by two continence nurse specialists, two continence nurses part time, a secretary/administrator part-time and a continence service manager.
What do we do?

We promote preventative measures so that individuals do not develop continence problems

Offer support to those experiencing both bladder and bowel problems

Undertake a detailed assessment and offer treatment / management options based on individual need

Offer individual care plans and promote self care wherever possible

Provide a range of patient literature – for example pelvic floor exercises, bladder training

Provide education sessions for staff through Somerset Community Health's education and training department

Provide education/ training to individuals, carers, external agencies etc

Act as a resource for advice and support to both the public and professionals

Everyone referred to the service will be offered a clinic appointment; if you are unable to get to a clinic then we can arrange a joint home visit wtih the community nursing service.
How can you access these services?
We are happy to accept self referrals as well as referrals from all other professionals, carers and family members. Please contact us on the telephone number below if you wish to self refer. We have clinics at different times and in different places across the county.

How long will you have to wait?
We aim to see all referrals within 6 weeks. Urgent referrals will be seen within 7 working days.
Please note that in an attempt to reduce waiting times if you do not attend an appointment we reserve the right to send your referral back to your GP or health worker for consideration. You may then be referred again to the service should the need exist.
