About Us

NHS Somerset  is the organisation funded by the Department of Health to commission healthcare services for the population of Somerset.

NHS Somerset aims to be an innovative and dynamic leader of quality within the local health and social care community and takes pride in performing to a high standard.

NHS Somerset has three main objectives:

  • to improve health and reduce health inequalities
  • to eliminate waiting
  • to improve health services

In every aspect of health care delivery there is a need to:

  • improve the service delivered for vulnerable groups and those people who have specific diseases and conditions
  • improve clinical quality and safety to ensure that all care is of the highest possible clinical quality and safety, removing avoidable error and harm
  • improve the quality of the user experience to ensure that, over and above receiving high quality, safe care at the right time and in the right place, the  experience of care is of dignity, respect and responsiveness for everyone
  • improve value for money and productivity to ensure that in everything it does, the NHS obtains value for money, releases resources from unproductive practices and allows front-line teams to add more clinical value for service users
