The Board and Directors
The NHS Somerset Board is responsible for setting the overall policy and strategy for the Trust, for monitoring performance and maintaining the highest standards of public accountability.
The Chairman and Non Executive Directors are drawn from the local community and appointed by the NHS Appointments Commission for a fixed period of time.
All Non Executive members, including the Chairman, are members of the Remuneration and Terms of Service Committee. This committee is responsible for appraising the performance of the Chief Executive and Executive Directors and determining their terms of service and salaries.

Members of the Board and Professional Executive Committee are required to declare any interests relevant to their work for the Primary Care Trust.
The Professional Executive Committee
The Professional Executive Committee is responsible for the clinical direction in the planning, development and performance management of the services commissioned and provided by the Trust.
