Health Advice

There is a lot we can all do to look after our own health. Keeping well gives you more time to enjoy life. It also means fewer visits to the doctor, which in the long run, allows money to be spent on care when it is really needed.

NHS Somerset aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Somerset.  Public health doctors work with other professional groups to monitor the health of the community. They identify health needs, develop programmes to reduce risk and screen for early disease, control communicable disease, foster policies which promote health, plan and evaluate the provision of health care, and manage and implement change.

This section provides advice to support people with long term conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and breathing difficulties and a range of other issues that affect our health, especially smoking, healthy eating and physical activity.

There are also links to other health promoting websites, such as http://www.direct.gov.uk/HealthAndWellBeing/fs/en which gives you details of health services and advice on staying healthy.
