Introduction to the Scheme

The Scheme is administered by the Dental Clinical Audit and Peer Review Team hosted by Somerset Primary Care Trust (PCT) in Yeovil, Somerset.

The South and West Local Assessment Panel members design structured Dental Clinical Audits and provide help and support to Dental Performers in completing their Dental Clinical Audit/Peer Review requirement.


Which PCTs are Included in the Scheme?

The Scheme caters for all Dental Performers within twelve PCT areas: Avon (Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire), Bournemouth & Poole, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay and Wiltshire.


PCTs Requirement

Within the Standard General Dental Services Contract, Dental Performers are required to comply with their PCT clinical governance arrangements.

The clinical governance arrangements are for each Dental Performer to complete five hours South and West Local Assessment Panel Approved Clinical Audit or Peer Review activity for each financial year.

Dental Clinical Audit

Individual Dentists carry out South and West Local Assessment Panel  structured Dental Clinical Audit topics, reviewing aspects of their dental clinical practice.

Choose an audit that will help you and your practice. When completed receive 5 hours verifiable CPD.

Dental Peer Review

A group of 4-8 dentists can review their own relevant topics to improve patient care.

Submit a peer review request or e-mail dentalclinicalaudit@somerset.nhs.uk

Once your Peer Review Request form has been received, an application form will be sent to you. Complete the application form and submit by e-mail or post.  Please remember not to commence until the South and West Local Assessment Panel has approved the application in writing.
