Performance

High Quality Care for All reflects the clinicians’ desire to place quality at the heart of the NHS.  A high-quality service can only be delivered if there is a focus on three key dimensions of quality: clinical effectiveness, safety and patient experience.

Understanding how we are performing against each of these three dimensions is important to NHS Somerset.  We need to support innovation in clinical practice and develop care processes that improve effectiveness and enhance the patient experience as well as providing value for money.

This is a challenge but there is good evidence that concentrating on delivering high-quality care, prevention and early intervention can improve efficiency and save NHS resources.

In order to measure our performance we often use statistical methods to analyse data.  These methods include survey sampling, forecasting and data analysis to summarise and present information.  Alongside each indicator will be an explanation of how the indicator is calculated
