The twenty-four core standards contained in Standards for Better Health comprise a key element in the annual assessment of the Primary Care Trust's performance.
The Primary Care Trust is required to assess its own compliance with each of the standards using criteria set out in the Healthcare Commission’s Core Standards Inspection Guide, and make a public declaration to the Commission of its level of compliance.
